Forma Viva – an open air sculpture exhibition
If you turn left at the exit of Boutique Hotel Portorose, make your way towards the second circle shaped intersection and turn towards the Marina, you will slowly but surely come across a campsite in the distance. When you make your way through it, immediately turn left and you will see a small vegetation dense path spiralling upwards to a nearby hill. When you come to the end of it, a field of green will open up before your eyes and you will be able to experience a multitude of different sculptures around the area – the place you’ve arrived at is the open air sculpture exhibition.
It was started by Slovenian artists Jakob Savinšek and Janez Lenassi in 1961, and still holds up today. The area has also been continuously open for the next 50 years, but that’s not the best part – the best part is that masons from more than 30 different countries contributed to the Forma viva, by making about 130 more stone statues for the place.
